I agree at ccent you're better off just studying the material, but at ccna level you need to begin labbing scenarios. If you had problems with gns3 before, uninstall.
Use a fresh install, and follow the setup tips on first start - select your ios.bin file to extract a new.image (which is what gns3 uses), then find your idle pc values so your computer doesn't have 100% cpu utilization while you are labbing. I watched maybe two videos on youtube to get it setup, a total of 40 minutes to learn how to use a new program. You could spend hours hitting your head against a wall trying to learn setting up an IOU lab. There are so many resources out there for gns3, from forums you can ask questions on, to faqs, to free labs like gns3vault.com.
There are tutorials on what commands need to be entered into the 3745 to set up vlans, however: Here's an honest question, though. Why would you spend your time learning about how to make a OLD router on an OLD firmware work as a switch? You'll likely never have to do this In your career. It's a waste of time. I say this because I've been down that road. Quite simply, as I've hammered multiple times the last 24 hours, GNS is useless for switching. If you want to test routing, gns is great.
It supports iOS 15 on the 7200 which means with the right T train you can do GLPB. If you want to test switching at the ccna level, use packet tracer.
It will do ROAS so easily. It has a few caveats it does not do well. Like it doesn't let you specific which level of severity you send to a sys log server. It doesn't accurately display the stp port role (it says shared) when using etherchannel. These are small things in the scheme of things in ccna and the OCG adequately prepares you for them. Edit: Downvoted for recommending PT over GNS for a CCNA student.

I'll be the guy who knows how shit works not burning my time on 3745 ether routers with 16 port module.stupid. Once you get GNS3 working, it works great.
TBH it worked out of the box for me with a fresh install. Install the basics, import your image, find the Idle-PC value for the image, and begin labbing.
That's really all there is to it. I actually would recommend VIRL as an alternative if you don't want to get your hands dirty with IOU.
Real equipment is also another great option, but the cost to get into it is much higher than a single device you copy the image off of. Also, your electric bill suffers.
